Ownkube vs Render
Render and Ownkube both turn a repo or a container into a running service with managed databases, TLS, and rollbacks. The clearest split is the billing model and whether the app can leave the platform.
At a glance
Section titled “At a glance”| Capability | Ownkube | Render |
|---|---|---|
| Billing model | Prepaid wallet. CPU and memory metered per minute on actual usage; unused credit rolls over and never expires | Bills per service by the month on fixed instance sizes |
| Cost to start | Browse free, no card. Deploying needs a plan from $5 / month (no free tier on Compute) | Free and paid instance types, billed per service |
| Deploy from | GitHub or GitLab repo, or a container image | Git repo or a container image |
| Managed Postgres / cache | Managed Postgres 17 / 18 and a Valkey cache, one click each | Managed Postgres and a Redis-compatible key-value store |
| Autoscaling | Horizontal autoscaling on CPU and memory | Autoscaling on paid instance types |
| Observability | Live logs plus CPU and memory metrics on every deployment | Logs and metrics in the dashboard |
| Own-cloud portability | Move the same app to your own AWS account with no rewrite; logs, metrics, and health checks come with it | Runs on Render’s platform |
| Lock-in | Standard Kubernetes. Disconnect anytime and your apps keep running | Apps run on Render’s managed platform |
Where Ownkube is different
Section titled “Where Ownkube is different”Render prices a service by the size you pick and bills that size by the month. Ownkube meters the CPU and memory a workload actually uses, per minute, so a mostly-idle app (most personal software) barely registers. Your plan loads a prepaid wallet, per-minute usage draws it down, and unused credit rolls over and never expires. Top up any time from a $5 minimum; at a zero balance apps pause with data retained.
Portability is the other difference. The same app moves into your own (or a customer’s) AWS account with no rewrite, and its logs, metrics, and health checks come with it. You pay AWS directly at wholesale rates on vanilla Kubernetes, and you can disconnect anytime.
Where Render may fit you better
Section titled “Where Render may fit you better”Render has a mature managed Postgres offering with read replicas and high availability, first-class static site hosting, and blueprint files that describe a whole environment as code. If those are central to how you ship, Render covers them well today.
